"Honeymoon" (The Guardian 26/09/14)

Honeymoon **
Dir: Leigh Janiak. With: Rose Leslie, Harry Treadaway, Ben Huber. 87 mins. Cert: 15

Or: Antichrist: The Afterschool Version. An insufferable pair of newlyweds, played with jarring American accents by Brits Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway, repair to an isolated cabin in the Canadian woods, where cracks appear in their lovey-dovey façade: his relentless horniness is one thing, her tendency to wander off at night cause for even greater concern. Co-writer/director Leigh Janiak aims for von Trier’s sustained dread, but manages only vague unease: locking us up with the leads’ drama-class tics proves more stifling than claustrophobic, while your major takehome from the final act’s various excretions and abortions is that, ugh, women are gross.

Honeymoon opens in selected cinemas from today.
